Moriarty Opposes China Hosting Games
In his latest political column entitled The 2008 Olympics: Berlin 1936
Redux, Michael Moriarty draws frightening parallels between the Nazi
Olympiad and the upcoming Olympic Games in Beijing, the capital of Communist
China. The actor/pundit observes: "Millions of Germans lived under the
Fuhrer's escalating tyranny. Over a billion people now live imprisoned under
what amounts to a Socialist Federation under perpetual martial law. What was
German National Socialism [Nazi] is now Chazi [Chinese National Socialism].
The 1936 Olympic Games were a prelude to World War II. What does the 2008
event bode for us?"

Moriarty Denounces SAG in LA Times
5-Star Ghost Town
Moriarty Accuses Loony Left of Destroying Hollywood
In an October 16 guest column for the Los Angeles Times, Michael Moriarty warns that creeping socialism is destroying the film industry in southern California.
Since Warren Beatty enshrined an American Communist as a hero in Reds in 1981, a two-pronged leftist assault has been waged on Hollywood by actor/directors such as Tim Robbins, who hold that all conservative thought should be demonized, Moriarty writes. Rabid unions threaten the creative control of artists and producers. As a consequence, much film work is moving north to Canadian cities such as Vancouver, where Moriarty now lives and works steadily.
At this rate, "the union rank-and-file [in L.A.] will be without any gifted producers and artists to create salable product," Moriarty observes, adding that Hollywood is starting to look like a "five-star ghost town."
Hollywood must also fear an unrelenting full-frontal assault on artists' First Amendment rights by such sanctimonious Beltway types as vice-presidential candidate Senator Joseph I. Lieberman (D-Conn.), who accuse Hollywood of wallowing in sex, profanity and violence.

[6-23-00] From a Friend in Canada:
Michael Moriarty's op-ed piece (retitled A Case for Stockwell Day) appears in today's edition of Canada's national newspaper The Globe & Mail (out of Toronto). As the Canadian Alliance Leadership Convention gets underway this weekend in Calgary, Moriarty publicly endorses candidate
Stockwell Day, a former Alberta Treasurer, and predicts that Day will be
Canada's next Prime Minister.
The following article is appearing in Ottawa Life Magazine. I have received permission to reprint it here.
MICHAEL MORIARTY, the brilliant and controversial American actor who exiled himself to Canada in 1995, following a nasty confrontation with U.S. Attorney General Janet Reno, has founded a new Canadian political party -- the Republican Party of Canada (RPC).
Incensed by Reno's campaign to end violence on television and trample on rights of free expression as guaranteed in the U.S. Constitution, Moriarty left the U.S. in protest, to begin the life of an expatriate in Canada. A landed immigrant, Moriarty expects to receive his Canadian citizenship papers shortly, at which time he says he will publicly burn his U.S. passport as a gesture of defiance against the American government.
Moriarty continues his acting career from his home base in Bedford, Nova Scotia, where he lives with his third wife Suzana and two stepchildren. He is a busy actor, with several upcoming movies and TV shows in production and a semi-regular role as the mysterious Michael Kelly on Global TV's Psi Factor: Chronicles of the Paranormal. Of course, the role that Moriarty is still best remembered for is that of Assistant District Attorney Ben Stone on the Law and Order series. Moriarty recently completed Bad Faith, a TV-movie shot in Calgary, based on a novel by Ian Adams, in which he plays the role of a Crown prosecuting attorney -- "Ben Stone without the naivete."
Moriarty is also a published writer. Both The Voyeur, a mystery novel about an O.J. Simpson-style murder case -- written in 1993 before the actual killings -- and The Gift of Stern Angels, an autobiographical journal, were published in 1997, to generally favorable reviews. Moriarty is hoping to find an American publisher for The Gift of Stern Angels, which was published in a limited edition in Canada only. Most of the requests for the book come from Americans via the Internet, he says.
Moriarty is currently working on a "funny and outrageous" play entitled Luci (short for Lucifer, in which the protagonist is Yahweh -- in the guise of George Burns -- and the antagonist is Karl Marx). He is also nearing completion on a play entitled The History of the World: Hitler and Christ Meet Death at the Port Authority Bus Terminal, about two homeless schizophrenics having a Samuel Beckett-like encounter.
An accomplished jazz pianist, Moriarty is now fashioning a Churchill Portrait for spoken word and orchestra -- the words of Winston Churchill set to music, in the same vein as Aaron Copland's Lincoln Portrait.
Moriarty's interest in politics is intense, because he believes he has little time to carry out his mission to save North American society from a "socialist takeover." (Indeed, it may already be too late, he warns.) Moriarty fears that the U.S. is "committing suicide" and that Canada will follow suit. Through his extensive research and firm belief that "the common denominator of all genocidal killing machines in the 20th Century has been some form of socialist government," Moriarty has deduced a diabolical, liberal (witting and unwitting) socialist and communist conspiracy. Moriarty believes this conspiracy will lead to a deliberately planned economic depression and to utter chaos in North American society within two years.
Moriarty explains: "I have deduced that a conspiracy exists between devout socialists within the Liberal, Socialist and Communist movements. My deductions stem from what I know as a Catholic with a Jesuit education, as a man of the theater who knows agit-prop art and the drama of agents provocateurs, as an avid amateur in politics, and from what I read in the columns of William Safire, David Frum and Mark Steyn."
Moriarty especially admires New York Times columnist Safire, whose recent columns probing into the downloading of top-secret American nuclear codes by Red Chinese agents confirm many of Moriarty's Communist conspiracy theories. "I'd like more people to start reading Safire," Moriarty says. "He's really plugged in."
The revelation of this conspiracy began when Reno, "Bill Clinton's pit bull," met with Moriarty and Law and Order producer Dick Wolf in 1994, demanding that they acquiesce in a campaign to end violence on television. Reno's eagerness to impose censorship on American broadcasters triggered Moriarty's transformation, fuelling an abiding need to discover more and reveal the true nature of the socialist conspiracy he believes is being quietly waged against the American people -- from inside the Oval Office of President Bill Clinton's White House.
Moriarty shed his sleek Ben Stone persona, quit the series, moved to Toronto (and later Halifax), and became a different person -- some would say crazy or manic-depressive; others would say radicalized; still others would say visionary.
The RPC is not yet a full-fledged, recognized political party, but this hasn't stopped Moriarty from trying to influence the body politic. From his home office, Moriarty corresponds with national media pundits, and fires off open letters to the likes of Reform Party Leader Preston Manning and the Right Reverend William Phipps, moderator of the United Church of Canada, to whom he sent a letter denouncing "enforced charity through socialist laws." Phipps had urged Canadians to pay their taxes "joyfully" to maintain Canada's social programs. Moriarty objected to Phipps using his instituted authority as a Christian clergyman to imply or infer that anyone resisting taxes is unchristian.
Moriarty has also discussed Canadian politics on CBC Newsworld's Ralph Benmergui Live, CTV's W5, Vancouver Television's Vicki Gabereau Live, CITY-TV's Breakfast Television, Global Television's Bynon, the Women's Television Network's Jane Hawtin Live, and The Comedy Network's Open Mike with Mike Bullard. Moriarty recently appeared on CBC Newsworld's Pamela Wallin Live for the third time, in a panel discussion headlined Canada: True North?
In April, Moriarty contacted a "top Torontonian," whose identity so far remains undisclosed, hoping to convince this person to lead the party. Moriarty fully intends to field RPC candidates in the next federal election, although he has no intention of running himself -- he sees himself as an architect, an éminence grise, though this mercurial personality could still change his mind. Moriarty recently mused publicly about running for mayor in Calgary, but then decided to pass because "I refuse to run for mayor of a city that issues traffic tickets out of unmarked cars by officers dressed for World War Three."
The walls of Moriarty's office are bedecked with awards and tributes, and with pictures of his two greatest heroes -- Winston Churchill and jazz trumpeter Miles Davis.
"Some may call me crazy," Moriarty writes. "They certainly labeled Churchill that when he warned them about the dictator of German socialism." Moriarty expects to be similarly vindicated by History.
As for jazz great Miles Davis, Moriarty relates to him as a kindred spirit, who reached a point in his career where he was willing to transform himself and his music totally, even if this meant leaving his fans behind. Like Davis, Moriarty feels that his transformation -- at age 52 -- was the best thing that ever happened to him.
He is now 58, and although slightly heavier than in his Ben Stone days, looks a good 10 years younger.
Moriarty was interviewed at his home in Nova Scotia -- "right in the heart of the (NDP/Liberal/socialist) enemy camp" -- on April 29.
