THE REAL STAR WARS
By Michael Moriarty
The recent overlap of the September 11 aerial massacre of the twin towers of the World Trade Center and this year’s opening of the World War II movie Pearl Harbor has life, art and history intertwined in such a way that it reminds me of Star Wars.
What was simply three tumors to remove in World War II – Hitler, Mussolini and Imperial Japan – is now a cancer more like leukemia than a simple carcinoma. The Jihad’s preemptive strike on America required such foreign espionage and cooperation within the United States that one has difficulty determining who the real enemy is, let alone the players in a frightening theater of war. In the past decade, it seems more like a war of theater, of predictably satisfying movie scripts about the eternal battle between good and evil.
National Post columnist Mark Steyn described William Jefferson Clinton as the first politician to use the Presidency as an entry-level job for Hollywood. I’ve done some hard time on Planet Hollywood. Perhaps I can ‘cross-over’ in the other direction.
President Ronald Reagan certainly did.
When did this thought occur to me? I decided to enter the race for the Presidency of the United States about eight years ago, when it seemed patently clear to me that no one knew what was going on. After a sporadic and overly impulsive urge to run immediately, I settled upon the year 2008. I thought by then the United States would be battered awake by the nightmares, which I knew were inevitable.
I knew that former President Clinton and his rather dangerous friends at the United Nations would do their best to make President George W. Bush’s administration look bad, but I wasn’t ready for Black September. The communists in Quebec created Black October for Canada’s Liberal Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau. Apparently, conservative/Republican leaders require the sternest measures. And so, the assault upon the World Trade Center.
I’m not surprised at the cold-bloodedness of this act of terrorism. We’ve been warned many times in the last 30 years that something like this would happen.
I just haven’t figured out why a plan I suspected in 1994, has been speeded up so measurably.
Yasir Arafat’s recent expressions of condolence to America looked and sounded more terrified than remorseful. If he was crying at all, it was for himself. If he now honors Israel at all, his own Palestinians will assassinate him. If he doesn’t follow Osama bin Laden’s orders, the Jihad will finish him off. Obviously, he thought the twin tower body count a little excessive, a mite too precipitous. I don’t for one second think Arafat is remorseful. He simply knows that someone more important than he now controls the reins. Arafat is no longer in charge of anything.
If an eventual connection is made between Red China and the Jihad terrorist troops, the opposing sides of World War III are clear. However, under this recently revised timetable, the location for the 2008 Olympics is now in severe doubt. There is too much time between now and then for America to make the connection between a devastated Manhattan and a smugly silent Beijing.
The Red China/Jihad Axis -- to use a World War II metaphor -- could lead to atomic bomb exchanges. If you factor in Red Vietnam, Cuba and North Korea, you have the equivalent of Italy, Japan and the German Third Reich.
If Black September is Pearl Harbor, Taiwan is Poland and the Red Chinese may invade it within weeks. The only thing that might be holding them back is the lucrative trade agreements they’ve made with America through the massive appeasement policies of President Clinton.
Overall, the message is that the Axis of Oriental Communism and the Jihad would much rather talk with Clinton than Dubya. Does that mean an absolute mandate landslide election in 2004 for either of Clinton’s preferred candidates -- his wife Hilary or his former attorney general Janet Reno?
That depends, as always, on America’s resolve.
As Hitler’s blitzkrieg invasion of Poland caught Japan off-guard, the Jihad’s pathological impatience ruined Red China’s timetable for the next eight years. The Chinese Communists were looking forward to their version of the 1936 Berlin Olympics. Now, not only is the location for the 2008 Olympics in question, but the invasion of Taiwan is in jeopardy. The plan could go awry with a genuine Republican in the Oval Office.
Red China has been running its version of the Nazi Third Reich for decades, and no nation has really called the Beijing overlords to account.
The Third World -- with the notable exception of India – seems resigned to Red Chinese domination. The American response so far is not that of a seasoned freedom-fighter confident that the good guys always win.
We will win, but can the Republican Party meet the challenge?
If Beijing -- after this perversely well-conceived but pathologically impulsive, kamikaze bombardment of the World Trade Center and Pentagon --, cannot maintain its deception of neutrality, then the invasion of Taiwan will occur by 2004. George W. Bush must realize that the only response to losing Taiwan is an immediate invasion of North Korea. To defend Taiwan is to destroy it in order to save it. Can America sit by and watch the loss of Taiwan as she watched France fall to Hitler? Delay is deadly. For failing to declare war on Nazi Germany when it invaded France, America lost thousands of lives on the beaches of Normandy.
The Bush administration’s retaliation to the recent carnage must be surgical, yet utterly unpredictable. It must be timed in such a way that the obvious early targets, like Bin Laden, are saved for last.
Most importantly, it must be a ground war. Yes, there will be casualties, but if American military forces are not prepared to die on the ground for what happened in New York City and at the Pentagon, when will they ever be ready?
Why should there be a ground war? China wants to know if we have the belly to fight a conventional ground war after Vietnam. If Beijing senses that we do not have this resolve, then goodbye Taiwan, Japan, South Korea and Thailand. If America does not respond to Taiwan’s loss by invading North Korea, its ‘glorious leader’ Kim Jong Il will eventually send a nuclear missile into Japan. That, like the insanity of the Jihad, will be the inevitable trigger to atomic warfare. Two nuclear powers will be swept into near-suicide by the psychosis of a rogue nation.
How far is Red China prepared to go to defend North Korea? The loss of Taiwan would not provoke the United States to attack China with nuclear weapons, and China knows that. I firmly believe that China would fight American armed forces on the ground in North Korea, but they would not make a preemptive strike of America with atomic weapons. We still carry nuclear superiority and it would be suicide for the Chinese. Why George W. Bush has allowed Red China to build additional missiles defies me. Should nuclear parity be reached, China would most certainly strike preemptively.
The most hellish target for American conventional weapons would, of course, be the Middle East and North Africa. With no nuclear weapons to respond with, the nightmare that the likes of Hussein, Kaddhafi, Arafat and bin Laden have plunged us all into, would look like a holiday compared to the inferno they would most certainly face. The World War II bombing of Dresden would be the measuring rod for American air power. That side of the war would continue long after both China and America ended their nuclear exchanges.
This brings me to Star Wars and the eternal battle between good and evil. The United Nations’ One World Order is nothing more than The Empire Strikes Back. Nazism without the apparent racism is still Nazism. However, the new Nazis now rule the world from UN headquarters in Manhattan. The lip service paid by racial coalitions to the horrors of racism will not end the nightmare. The only idea that defeats racism is individualism. However, as the United Nations NGO from Cameroon declared fervently, "The enemy is individual freedom."
We’ll see.
